Distance Makes the Heart Grow Fonder
By Leah   10/09/2008My story has been in the making for about 3 years now. My boyfriend and I met 8th grade year. I had just moved, and we attended school together. The first time I saw him in algebra class, I couldn't stop staring at him. After about 3 months of staring, I told all my friends that I had a major crush on him, but since I didn't really know him (we only talked when I would ask for a pencil) I asked them if he was the type of guy that was worth my time. One friend replied, "YES! He one of the nicest guys." Another replied, "Yea, of course, all the girls like him. It will be hard for you to get him to notice you, but go for it." and then my last friend said, "No, I have liked him for 4 years now, and he is too shy and probably doesn't even want a girlfriend."
So I became determined to get him to notice me. I would stand by his locker, cheer him on at football games, and he even would come over to my friends house when I was there. It was no use. I tried the whole year, and nothing happened. The whole school knew I liked him, except him. (weird how that works). So I gave up, until I saw him again freshman year, and I was hooked again. We had another class together, so the first day of school I sat next to him. We talked the entire class and even flirted a little! I walked out so excited thinking I had a chance this time. 4 months had gone by and nothing. At the time I had my first boyfriend and we dated for about 2 months. All the while I still had a crush on the guy I liked for sooo long. I had given up though, and started dating another guy. After that ended it was that last month of the school year.
I still had a thing for the guy I first saw. It made me so mad that for so long he didn't even notice. Then my friend asked him who he likes. He said' "No one. I don't want a gf." then she asked, "Well if you did want a girlfriend who would it be?" and guess what!? He said my name! She came back and told me and then that's when I knew I had a chance. He messaged me on MySpace. He wrote, "Hi. Whats up?" I screamed with excitement and wrote back and we continued talking (and flirting) for about a week. Then I got the worst news: we were moving. 900 miles away. I cried and cried, and when I told my friends they cried and then I told him, he just sat in astonishment.
We had field day at school and he hung out with me the whole time. We sat and talked, played football, had water fights, he even picked me up and carried me around :). The same night he messaged me and said, "I like you. A LOT. I know this is a bad time to say it and I'm sorry. I'm going to miss you so much." That Friday was my friend's birthday party, and we both went. He didn't notice anyone but me and I didn't notice anyone but him. It was an amazing night and at the end he walked me to the front door and kissed me. I was speechless. I finally got the guy I wanted for so long...but I was moving in 2 weeks. We both hung out every single day and he even bought me a gold and diamond necklace.
When the last day of school came, we both couldn't speak. I just cried and he just held me tight. My mom drove up, and then he looked me in the eyes and said, "Promise me that we will stay together." Of course I promised.. and I said the same to him, and he said, "Always."
We have been together for 5 months now. We try and see each other every 2-3 months even though its really hard since I live in South Carolina and he lives back in Texas. But we both love each other so much and I believe that we will stay together, I tried too hard to get him and I'm not letting go.
